Grete Sends It Deep - TDI Cup

As the sun rises over the mountain peaks, it’s another early morning. Dawn patrol to pick a line and get it dialed before dropping in. Helmet – Check. Gloves – Check. Fire retardant one-piece suit and fire proof underwear – Huh?

Today is a little different day for Grete Eliassen. Instead of negotiating the steep lines of Utah’s backcountry, She’ll be navigating the track at Miller Motorsports in Tooele UT behind the wheel of a racecar for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup.

While most skiers are winding down the season, headed to the beach for R&R Grete decided to take it up a notch. Jumping in a car to take on 20 other drivers.

Some might ask, how does a 23year old freeskier end up behind the wheel of a high performance automobile? Occasionally VW has co-sponsors bring in guest drivers to spice things up a bit. Red Bull bought the lottery ticket and Grete ended up on the Wonka factory tour for this race.

While most drivers took her at face value – the nice girl from Minnesota/ Norway and the announcers managed to butcher her name as Greet for a good part of the weekend. She didn’t disappoint in the hijinx department.  Perhaps she was inspired by Cole Trickle but Grete wasn’t hesitant in living up to the motto “Rubbing is racing”  – Trading paint, going for passes and a few spinouts in the dirt made for an exciting weekend. Although now I will consider notifying my next of kin if I end up on an errant road trip with “Grete Bobby”.
